ERDENER-TREPPCHEN

This vineyard is directly adjacent to the eastern side of the Prälat and is so steep that, centuries ago, stone steps were built into the hillside so that workers could reach the vines more easily. If the wines from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr seem like a graceful "ballerina," those from the Treppchen resemble muscular free-style climbers. The iron-rich, red slate soil produces wines that are full-flavoured, racy and complex, with an intense mineral aftertaste.

Volcanic activity and the formation of the meandering Mosel Valley produced this distinctive red slate soil in earth ages ago.
