Only Nine Days Left to Enjoy “31 Days of German Riesling”

31 days

A News Release from our US Importer, Loosen Bros. USA

Oregon City, Oregon — Hoping to avoid the wails of thousands of disappointed US Riesling lovers, wine importer Loosen Bros. USA has issued a reminder that as of today there are only nine days left to enjoy this year’s annual “31 Days of German Riesling” celebration.

“31 days of German Riesling” is a US-wide promotion by Wines of Germany in which more than 100 restaurants and wine shops nationwide pledge to offer German Riesling in by-the-glass specials and tastings throughout the month of July.

Participating restaurants are offering at least two German Rieslings by the glass and some are taking it a sip further with special Riesling flights and menu pairings. Wine shops across the country are offering in-store tastings and discounts on bottles for the entire month. Consumers can find a local tasting here.

“31 Days is particularly interesting this year because there are so many new dry Rieslings to try,” says Loosen Bros. VP Kirk Wille. “A lot of people don’t know that Riesling comes in such a wide range of styles, so having these new wines available by the glass is a great way to get them to try something they’ve never had before.”

Wille also “warns” that consumers have only nine days left to enter Wines of Germany’s 31 Days sweepstakes for a chance to win a brand new wine fridge and $2,000 to to stock it with their favorite German Rieslings. To enter, they simply need to show how they enjoy Riesling on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #ReachforRiesling or they can submit an entry via Wines of Germany’s online gallery. Official rules and details are here.

Whether wine lovers are in a restaurant or bar, or shopping for a bottle at a store, Wille suggests looking for one (or all) of these Rieslings from the Loosen Bros. USA portfolio:

Dr. Loosen Riesling Dry Red Slate – Made from red slate estate vineyards in Erden and Ürzig, this dry Riesling has an intense minerality that is warm and enveloping. It has floral, spicy, citrus blossom aromas and harmonious flavors with a full, expansive texture. Learn more about Dr. Loosen Red Slate here.

Villa Wolf Riesling Dry – This medium-bodied dry Riesling has lovely flavors of peach and stone, with a hint of apricot. Nicely balanced acidity gives it a juicy grip. It is an excellent match for classic continental-style cooking, especially with dishes that feature freshwater fish, chicken and pork. Learn more about Villa Wolf here.

Wittmann Estate Riesling Trocken – This dry Riesling from the Rheinhessen region has a fine aroma of yellow fruits and apple, elegant clear structure and juicy freshness. The wine is dry with a juicy acidity that harmonizes with the typical earthy mineral tones and a good finish. Learn more about Wittmann here.

Robert Weil Riesling Spätlese – Sourced from parcels that neighbor the Robert Weil estate’s classified single-vineyard sites, this wine also includes preselection fruit from the top sites, which gives it an extra dimension of fruit and mineral intensity. Made with exacting standards and meticulous attention to detail, it is designed to showcase Spätlese’s riper, richer style from late-picked fruit. Learn more about Robert Weil here.

Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett – This wine, from a legendary Mosel estate, exhibits the delicate Kabinett style, but also shows the distinctive stone fruit flavors and red slate minerality that are typical expressions of this historic vineyard’s terroir. Learn more about Maximin Grünhäus here.

Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese – This late-picked Riesling has excellent concentration and very pure fruit atop brilliantly ripe acidity. With a fine, forceful fruit in the aroma, it has a linear focus on the palate and a pure slate finish. Learn more about Fritz Haag here.

Of course, people don’t have to stop enjoying German Riesling when “31 Days” is over. Wille says: “We strongly recommend enjoying German Riesling all 365 days of the year.”
